Inspire South West provides commissioned support for children and young people
who need a different route into learning, participation and achievement.
It may form part of an interim plan, reintegration pathway, personalised programme or broader package.
What support may include
• Consistent one-to-one or carefully matched small-group sessions
• Practical, community-based and interest-led learning
• Support to develop communication, confidence and self-advocacy
• Functional English and maths where included in the commissioned
plan
• ASDAN Short Courses, AQA Unit Award Scheme and Arts Award opportunities where appropriate
• Physical activity, outdoor learning and access to community partners
• Preparation for transition, adulthood or further education
• Regular session records, attendance data and outcome-focused
reports
A planned intervention, not somewhere to place a child
A referral must identify why support is needed, what it should achieve, how it fits the overall education plan and who retains responsibility.
We will challenge a proposal that is unsafe, unclear or unsuitable.
Commissioner responsibilities
The school or local authority retains its legal duties for the overall education arranged, safeguarding oversight, review and placement decisions. ISW supplies the agreed service and evidence; it does not assume the commissioner's statutory role.
Referral route
Alternative education support is a commissioned service. Referrals
must come through a school, Devon County Council's 0-25 SEND
service or another authorised statutory commissioner. Families are welcome to contact us for general information, but we cannot create or approve an education package without the responsible commissioner.
